About
Vinay Datla is an award-winning Indian filmmaker and cinematographer with over a decade of experience telling documentary, wildlife, factual, commercial and human-interest stories across India, Asia and beyond.
His work spans internationally recognised broadcasters, streaming platforms, NGOs and global brands, including BBC, Disney+, National Geographic, Netflix, Terra Mater, History TV18 and Channel News Asia. He has worked across productions ranging from premium documentary and wildlife films to social-impact documentaries, corporate films, branded content and short-form digital storytelling.
As a cinematographer, Vinay combines an observational and cinematic approach with a strong understanding of character and story. He is particularly interested in stories that connect people with the natural world and explore conservation, culture, social change and human resilience. His experience in the field has taken him into challenging environments and remote locations, where building trust with contributors and responding creatively to unpredictable situations are central to his filmmaking process.
Vinay also works as a director on select projects, bringing together research, visual storytelling, contributor direction and production to develop films from concept through to completion.
Vinay has contributed cinematography to Disney+ Tiger, which is now streaming on Disney+, alongside an international team of leading wildlife cinematographers.
Based in India, Vinay works internationally and brings his own professional camera and production equipment to productions. He is also a trained drone operator, allowing him to provide flexible, end-to-end cinematography solutions for productions of different scales.
Selected clients and collaborators: BBC · Disney+ · National Geographic · Netflix · Terra Mater · Channel News Asia · History TV18 · Amnesty International · and other international broadcasters, organisations and brands.
