IVAN CANABRAVA

Brazilian filmmaker, documentary director and production professional with more than 28 years of experience in audiovisual production, television, live broadcasting and international events, working across Brazil and more than 100 countries.
I graduated in Cinema from the Escuela Internacional de Cine y Televisión (EICTV), Cuba, where I studied from 2016 to 2019, with a strong focus on filmmaking and documentary production.
Throughout my career, I have worked with and collaborated with major international media organizations, broadcasters, agencies and institutions, including CGTN (China Global Television Network), The World Bank, NHK, Associated Press (AP), Reuters, AFP, UNDP, BBC, CNN, BTV Botswana TV, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Merck.
My experience covers documentary filmmaking, television production, live broadcasting, cinematography, photography, editing, drone operation, production coordination, logistics and field production.
For 16 years, I have collaborated with CGTN, working on international productions and documentary projects. My experience in the field includes productions in challenging environments and coverage of humanitarian, environmental and social issues in countries including Haiti, Ukraine, Iraq, Kurdistan and Botswana.
I have also worked on projects involving HIV/AIDS documentaries, humanitarian productions, environmental stories, international events, tourism campaigns and branded content, as well as training and coordinating local production crews.
As a filmmaker and fixer, I understand both sides of international production: the creative requirements of the story and the practical realities of getting a production successfully on the ground.
I can provide international productions filming in Brazil with local production support, research, location scouting, access, permits, logistics, local contacts, interviews, translation, crew coordination and on-set support.
I speak Portuguese, English and Spanish, allowing direct communication between international production teams and local contributors, crews, institutions and communities.
